Die Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung ist eine 2003 gegründete gemeinnützige Stiftung zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur mit Sitz in der historischen Militärbaracke „M.1“ im ländlichen Hohenlockstedt in Schleswig-Holstein. Die Kulturförderung der Stiftung teilt sich in drei Programme: M.1 kuratieren, Förderpreise und M.1 Lokal.

Im Rahmen des kuratorischen Stipendiums M.1 kuratieren wird die künstlerische Leitung des M.1 für jeweils eineinhalb Jahre an ausgewählte Kurator_innen vergeben, die in dieser Zeit das künstlerische Programm des Hauses eigenverantwortlich gestalten. Dadurch entwickelt sich im M.1 ein abwechslungsreiches Programm von großer thematischer Breite und künstlerischer Offenheit, das immer wieder neue Akzente setzt. In diesem Jahr endet das aktuelle kuratorische Programm unter der Leitung von Sascia Bailer, die mit ihrem Fokus auf Care-Arbeit, soziale Gerechtigkeit und Solidarität vor allem auch die lokale Gemeinschaft und das Miteinander in „Holo“ (Hohenlockstedt) in den Blick nimmt.

Die Förderpreise werden alle zwei Jahre an junge Künstler_innen aus Norddeutschland vergeben, die in Hohenlockstedt wohnen und arbeiten können und zudem die Möglichkeit erhalten, in Zusammenarbeit mit der künstlerischen Leitung im M.1 eine Ausstellung und eine Publikation zu realisieren.

Im Rahmen von M.1 Lokal wird ein engagiertes künstlerisches, kulturelles und soziales Programm organisiert, das in Zusammenarbeit mit Menschen vor Ort für den Ort entsteht und ungewöhnliche und zeitgenössische Formate von Kunst- und Kulturvermittlung umsetzt. Veranstaltungen wie das Ferienprogramm für Kinder und Jugendliche, der Filmclub, der Kochclub und das Repaircafé schaffen Zonen der Begegnung, in denen Kulturvermittlung, soziales Miteinander und künstlerische Experimente zusammentreffen. Im Miteinander-Wirken von M.1 kuratieren und M.1 Lokal zeigt sich auch das Besondere der Stiftung: Gegenwartskunst verschränkt sich mit Lokalkultur und ländlichem Alltag. Eine besondere Verantwortung sieht die Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung in Schutz und Pflege der historischen Massivbaracke M.1, ihrem zentralen Veranstaltungsort, sowie seit 2018 auch des denkmalgeschützten ehemaligen Soldatenheims von Fritz Höger. Dieser „Högerbau“ soll in Zukunft als Künstlerhaus fungieren und Unterkünfte und Ateliers für ein neues Residency-Programm der Stiftung beherbergen.

The Arthur Boskamp-Foundation is a non-profit foundation established in 2003 for the promotion of art and culture. It is based in the historic military barracks „M.1“ in rural Hohenlockstedt in Schleswig-Holstein. The foundation’s cultural funding is divided into three programs: M.1 kuratieren, Advancement Awards and M.1 Lokal.

Within the framework of the curatorial fellowship M.1, the artistic direction of M.1 is given to selected curators for one and a half years, who are responsible for the artistic program of the house during this time. As a result, M.1 develops a varied program of great thematic range and artistic openness that continually sets new accents.

The Advancement Awards are awarded every two years to young artists* from Northern Germany who can live and work in Hohenlockstedt and who will also be given the opportunity to realize an exhibition and a publication in cooperation with the artistic direction at M.1.

Within the framework of M.1 Lokal, a committed artistic, cultural and social program is organized, which is created in collaboration with local people for local people and implements unusual and contemporary formats of art and cultural education. Events such as the vacation program for children and young people, the film club, the cooking club and the repair café create zones of encounter where cultural education, social practice and artistic experiments come together. The special nature of the foundation is also evident in the interaction between M.1 kuratieren and M.1 Lokal: contemporary art is intertwined with local culture and everyday rural life.
The Arthur Boskamp-Foundation sees a special responsibility in the protection and care of the historic Massive Barracks M.1, its central venue, and, since 2018 also of Fritz Höger’s former soldiers‘ home. In the future, this „Högerbau“ will function as an artists‘ house and house accomodations and studios for the upcoming new residency program of the foundation.
