Dr. Mirjam Lewandowsky ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf im Rahmen des BMBF-Projekts „Wasteland? Kulturelle Bildung im ländlichen Raum als Pädagogik der Verortung“ (2020-2023). Nach einem Studium der Philosophie und Kunstwissenschaft in Berlin und Barcelona hat sie mit einer Arbeit zur Foto- und Bildtheorie an der Leuphana Universität in Lüneburg promoviert. Das Buch wurde unter dem Titel „Im Hinterhof des Realen. Index – Bild – Theorie“ (2016) veröffentlicht.Von 2014 bis 2019 war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im DFG-Schwerpunktprogramm 1688 „Ästhetische Eigenzeiten. Zeit und Wahrnehmung in der polychronen Moderne“und hat ein Buch zum Thema „Künstlerfilme. Eine theoretische Reflexion“ (vorauss. Veröffentlichung 2021)unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der unabhängigen Filmszene der DDR geschrieben. Von 2005 bis 2006 war sie Jahresstipendiatin am Deutschen Forum für Kunstgeschichte in Paris. Danach bis 2009 Stipendiatin am Graduiertenkolleg „Bild-Körper-Medium. Eine anthropologische Perspektive“ an der Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe. Von 2009 bis 2010 war sie Assistentin am Institut für Philosophie der Universität Wien. Ihre Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen in der Fototheorie, Bild- und Kunsttheorie, Ästhetik, Kunst des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts.

Im Projekt wird sich Mirjam Lewandowsky vorrangig mit den Theorien des Material Feminism und New Materialism in Bezug auf Landschaft, Institution, Affekt und Raum beschäftigen. Sie koordiniert die Forschungsprozesse und organisiert den Austausch mit internationalen und interdisziplinären Forschungskontexten.

Dr. Mirjam Lewandowsky is a research assistant at the Düsseldorf Art Academy within the BMBF project “Wasteland? Rural Areas as Affective Space and Cultural Education as Pedagogy of Situating” (2020-2023). After her studies of philosophy and art history in Berlin and Barcelona, she completed her doctorate at Leuphana University in Lüneburg with a thesis on photography and image theory. The book was published under the title “In the Background of the Real. Index – Image – Theory” (2016). From 2014 to 2019 she was a research associate in the priority program 1688 „Aesthetic Times. Time and Perception in Polychronic Modernity“ funded by the German Research Foundation at the Academy of the Arts in Düsseldorf and wrote a book on “Artists` Films. A theoretical Reflection” with a special focus on the underground film scene of the GDR (to be published in 2021). She received several grants including a grant from the “German Forum for Art History” in Paris (2005-2006) and the graduate school “Image-Body-Medium. An anthropological perspective” at the Karlsruhe State Academy of Arts and Design (2006-2009). From 2009 to 2010 she worked as an assistant of Pr. Dr. Claus Pias at the Institute of Philosophy at the University Vienna. Her research interests are Photography Theory, Theory of the Arts, Theory of Images, Aesthetics, Art of the 20th and 21th century.


In the project, Mirjam Lewandowsky works primarily on theories of New Feminism and New Materialism in relation to landscape, institution, affect and space. She coordinates the research processes and organizes the exchange with international and interdisciplinary research contexts.
