Janna R. Wieland ist Kulturanthropologin und empirische Kulturwissenschaftlerin. Sie studierte Kultur der Metropole (B.A.) und Urban Design (M.Sc.) an der Hafencity Universität Hamburg. Als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin arbeitete sie an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg (2016 bis 2018) und an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (seit 2018) im BMBF-Forschungsprojekt “Transkulturelle Praktiken im postmigrantischen Theater und in der Schule – Method Mixing als Transmission”. Seit 2020 forscht sie im BMBF-Folgeprojekt „Wasteland? Ländlicher Raum als Affektraum und kulturelle Bildung als Pädagogik der Verortung“ an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf und ist seit 2022 am DFG-Graduiertenkolleg „Ästhetische Praxis“ der Universität Hildesheim assoziiert/Mitglied des Netzwerks. In ihrem Promotionsprojekt beschäftigt sich Janna R. Wieland mit postdramatischen Theaterproduktionen und legt ihren Fokus auf empirische und methodologische Fragen feministischer Wissenschaftsforschung. Sie diskutiert anhand empirischen Materials aus Theaterproben (Un)Möglichkeiten von Schreib-, Darstellungs- und Denkweisen jenseits repräsentationaler Wissensproduktion. Ziel ist es, einerseits den etablierten Methoden-, Analyse- und Repräsentations-Kanon der ethnographischen Forschung von Wissens- und Erkenntnisproduktion zu hinterfragen und zum anderen Ihre ästhetisch-analytische Arbeit am empirischen Material offenzulegen. Die Arbeit legt ihren Fokus auf empirische und methodologische Fragen, die durch queer-feministische und theoretisch-methodologische Ansätze des Neomaterialismus verhandelt werden. Gegenwärtige Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind u.a. die Forschung zu ästhetischer Praxis in Theaterprobenprozessen, kulturwissenschaftliche- und feministische Wissenschaftsforschung und Methoden, queer-feministische Schreib- und Darstellungsweisen, Neuer feministischer Materialismus, Sensory Ethnography.
Im Projekt forscht Wieland an der Jungen Landesbühne Nord (julabü) in Wilhelmshaven in Hinblick auf ihre instituierende Praxis und zur Frage, wie sich die beforschte Institution als Teil eines affektiven Gefüges beschreiben lässt. Im Feldzugang zur Landesbühne und den zu erforschenden Dörfern arbeitet sie an methodologischen und theoretischen Perspektiven (u. a. Affekttheorie, Feministischer Neuer Materialismus, Landschaftstheorie), sowie mit Dérives, oder Teilnehmender Beobachtung oder Interviewspaziergängen in Anlehnung an Methoden der Sensory Ethnography.
Janna R. Wieland is a cultural anthropologist and empirical cultural scientist. She studied metropolitan culture (B.A.) and urban design (M.Sc.) at Hafencity University Hamburg. As a research assistant, she worked at Leuphana University Lüneburg (2016 to 2018) and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy (since 2018) in the BMBF research project „Transcultural Practices in Postmigrant Theater and School – Method Mixing as Transmission“. Since 2020, she has been researching in the BMBF follow-up project „Wasteland? Rural affective spaces and cultural education as pedagogy of situating“ at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and has been an associate/member of the DFG Research Training Group „Aesthetic Practice“ at the University of Hildesheim since 2022. In her PhD project, Janna R. Wieland deals with postdramatic theater productions and focuses on empirical and methodological questions of feminist science studies. Using empirical material from theater rehearsals, she discusses (im)possibilities of ways of writing, performing, and thinking beyond representational knowledge production. The aim is, on the one hand, to question the established canon of methods, analysis and representation of ethnographic research of knowledge and cognition production and, on the other hand, to reveal her aesthetic-analytical work on empirical material. The work focuses on empirical and methodological issues negotiated through queer-feminist and theoretical-methodological approaches to neo-materialism. Current work focuses on research on aesthetic practice in theater rehearsal processes, cultural studies and feminist science research and methods, queer-feminist modes of writing and performing, New Feminist Materialism, Sensory Ethnography, among others.
In the project, Wieland conducts research at the Young State Theatre North (julabü) in Wilhelmshaven with regard to its instituting practice and to the question of how the researched institution can be described as part of an affective structure. In the field access to the state theater and the villages to be researched, she works on methodological and theoretical perspectives (including affect theory, feminist new materialism, landscape theory), as well as with dérives, or participant observation, or interview walks following methods of sensory ethnography.
